Toggl doesn't look like anything more than a timer application on the surface, but if you take a minute to look at its functionality, you will find that it is an excellent alternative to many task tracking utilities. Instead of burdening you with complex menus and spreadsheets, the application allows you to track and manage your tasks with only a few clicks.

All you have to do is click a button, on Toggl's compact user interface, to start timing a task. You can also name the task you are tracking. When you stop tracking a task, its name and duration will appear in a list, on the same window. Also, each task is displayed with a Start button, so you can resume tracking any task on the fly. Clicking a task's name or duration will bring up a drawer menu, on which you can rename the task, assign it to a project, tag it or modify its duration.

Despite its simple appearance, Toggl offers a comprehensive reporting feature. Recorded tasks are synchronized with an online account and you can view them in various report types on a web browser. You can sort your tasks by their corresponding projects, view them in a timeline and more. It is also possible to manage projects and to track new or existing tasks, on the web interface. What's more, the application allows you to invite other users to join your work.

Pros

Toggl is straightforward and easy to understand. It allows you to assign your tasks to projects and manage them on a web interface. The application can provide you with detailed reports about your work hours.

Cons

The free version has a few limitations. Keeping track of entire projects and specific tasks can't get any easier while using Toggl.
